Engaging and Informative CEU Training Workshops

At the Hawaii State Society of Medical Assistants (HSSMA), we pride ourselves on providing top-notch continuing education (CEU) training workshops for our members. Our past events have featured engaging, hands-on workshops designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of medical assistants. Here’s a look at some of the workshops we’ve conducted.

Stop the Bleed Training

Speaker: Christina “TJ” Donayri, MSHS, RN, CEN, TCRN, CPST, Clinical Coordinator Injury Prevention/Outreach and Education for Trauma Services, Queens Medical Center

The "Stop the Bleed" training, led by Christina "TJ" Donayri, provided participants with essential skills in bleeding control. This workshop combined a formal presentation with hands-on practice in applying direct pressure, packing wounds, and using tourniquets, emphasizing the critical importance of immediate response to severe bleeding scenarios.

Preventing Specimen Errors

Speakers: Clarence Bermejo, MLS (ASCP), MPH, Quality Improvement Manager, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii (CLH) and Justin Stanford, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii (CLH)

This workshop, presented by Clarence Bermejo and Justin Stanford, focused on the crucial tasks of phlebotomy and specimen processing. Attendees learned about common errors and their impact on patient care, reviewed best practices, and explored case scenarios to understand the importance of standardized steps in blood collection and specimen processing.
